Deutscher Medienpreis 2013 for Queen Máxima

The Deutsche Medienpreis 2013 goes to Queen Máxima, who will be dignified as an advocate of a decisively important issue of international development politics - giving people all over the world access to economic and financial resources.

By the time her husband was installed as King of the Netherlands, the native Argentinian had become one of the most highly respected personalities in Europe. The trained economist and former finance manager has been working insistently for years towards the goal to give the poorest of the poor and small businesses in developing countries access to so-called "microloans". Queen Máxima has been committed to this issue since 2005 when she led a high-ranking group of advisors for the international year of the "microcredit".

Queen Máxima, who was appointed "Secretary General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development" (UNSGSA) by the UN Secretary General in 2009, has played an active worldwide role in raising the awareness on the importance of financial inclusion for achieving development aims and improving economic conditions. In 2011, Queen Máxima became the Honorary Patron of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI).

With her very own mixture of authentic dedication, convincing expertise, and personal charisma, Queen Máxima not only succeeded in winning over the hearts of the Dutch, she also uses her exceptional presence in the media for the resolution of a key issue in sustainable globalisation politics.
